Daniel Steres Professional Career
Chivas USA selected Steres with the 28th overall pick in the MLS Supplemental Draft in 2012, but the player did not end up signing a contract with the club.
After his brief time with Chivas USA, Steres returned to the amateur team Ventura County Fusion, for whom he had previously played in 2011 during the collegiate summer. Ventura County Fusion competed in the USL Premier Development League.
In the Major League Soccer (MLS) Waiver Draft held on June 6, 2012, Steres was chosen by the Seattle Sounders FC. On June 22nd, he put pen to paper with the sounders. After not playing for the first team during the 2012 campaign, he was cut loose at the end of the year.
Daniel Steres Wilmington Hammerheads
Steres has committed to playing with the Wilmington Hammerheads of the USL Pro for the 2013 season. On April 20, he made his debut with the Hammerheads, competing against Antigua Barracuda and helping his team to a victory by a score of 2-0. On May 18, Steres scored his first goal for Wilmington, which ultimately led to a victory for the Hammerheads over the Los Angeles Blues by a score of 2–1.
Despite the fact that he played mostly in the center back position, he finished the season with 25 appearances, seven goals, and three assists in league play. He led the squad in goals scored. Steres was selected for the USL Pro All-League Second Team and was honored as the Most Valuable Player for the team. The Hammerheads were unable to make the playoffs despite Steres having a successful season since they finished ninth in the table, which was one slot and one point below the last playoff spot.
Daniel Steres Injury
On Tuesday, the Galaxy made the announcement that Daniel Steres will be sidelined for six to eight weeks due to a fracture in the L2-4 transverse process. The injury occurred early on during the Galaxy’s encounter against Seattle Sounders FC earlier this month. The match was played in Los Angeles.
The ailment that Steres is suffering from is only the most recent in a long line of injuries that have plagued the Galaxy throughout the course of the season. These injuries have caused the Galaxy to lose some of their most major contributors, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
“When you look at the defenders that were here to start the season of the squad that was put together by [General Manager Pete] Vagenas, it is clear that [General Manager Pete] Vagenas did a great job. Robbie Rogers, Jelle Van Damme, Steres, and Ashley Cole were the people involved in the incident. “At this point, it comes down to one of those four,” Sigi Schmid said in an interview with LA Galaxy Insider. “When you have major turnover like that, when 75 percent of the backline is missing, it makes it difficult,” said one of the coaches. “It’s made it difficult for all of the coaches that have been here because it makes it difficult when you have significant turnover like that.”
When the Galaxy play Atlanta United on Wednesday, they will be forced to put together yet another defensive lineup due to the absence of Steres and Bradley Diallo, who is currently hobbled by a hamstring ailment. Steres has been placed on the injured reserve list.
“Now that [Romain] Alessandrini and Jermaine Jones are available to us, we are in a slightly better position than we were versus Toronto,” Schmid remarked. This is helpful, but Steres isn’t playing, and we’ve already lost Diallo. We still aren’t able to get to the stage where we can start the same team as we did against Colorado and Seattle.
