Danilo Acosta Club Career
Acosta signed a Homegrown Player deal with Real Salt Lake on December 29, 2015, after having previously participated in Real Salt Lake’s youth program in Arizona and the club’s United Soccer League affiliate, the Real Monarchs.
In return for $75,000 worth of General Allocation Money, Acosta joined Orlando City SC on a loan for the remainder of the 2018 season with the option to make the transfer permanent at the conclusion of the 2018 campaign. The loan began on December 28, 2018. Orlando did not approve of making the transfer permanent. The contract option that Acosta had with Real Salt Lake was also turned down, which means that he will be a free agent when the 2019 season is over.
Acosta was chosen by the Los Angeles Galaxy to participate in the end-of-year Waiver Draft on November 25, 2019. On January 8, 2020, he became the club’s official member after signing his contract. Acosta suffered an ACL tear on February 15, which caused him to miss the entirety of the 2020 season. After the conclusion of the 2021 campaign, the Galaxy decided to let Acosta go.
Acosta signed a contract with Orange County SC, a team competing in the USL Championship, on January 7, 2022, in advance of the 2022 season.

Acosta was chosen to participate in the United States Under-18 team’s training camp with 36 other players in October 2014, however he has not yet played for the United States.
On January 3, 2016, Tab Ramos announced that Acosta would be participating in the United States U20 January training camp.
Acosta was a member of the United States national team that triumphed in the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship and went on to compete for the United States at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea.
In January of 2018, he received his first and, to this day, only call up to the senior national team camp for the United States.
Acosta remained eligible to play for the country of his birth despite not having any senior caps to his record. As a result, he was chosen to play for Honduras in the 2019 Gold Cup.
Acosta chose not to sign a letter of intent from FIFA that would have confirmed his one-time switch of allegiance to Honduras after their elimination from the competition because he did not make an appearance for the squad. Honduras was eliminated from the competition.
On June 16, 2021, the Football Federation of Honduras announced that Acosta had resolved to permanently represent Honduras at the international level and that FIFA had already approved his plea to do so. The statement also stated that FIFA had granted Acosta’s request to do so.
On September 5, 2021, he made his debut with the Honduras national team in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification match against El Salvador that ended 0–0.
