MLS Average Salaries 2022: Complete Player Salary List

MLS Average Salaries 2022: Complete Player Salary List: On Tuesday, the Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA) announced the release of the 2022 Spring-Summer Compensation Guide. This guide includes salary statistics for all MLS players who were under contract as of April 15, 2022.

The current annualized base salary of each player is included, as well as their MLS Average Salaries 2022, in this guide.

The MLSPA is responsible for calculating each figure using data collected from 841 players across 28 clubs.

It is not exactly suprising that players in the Major League Soccer make less money than their counterparts in other leagues, such as the Premier League in England. In point of fact, the minimum pay in MLS was — wait for it — $36,500 prior to the passage of the league’s 2015 collective bargaining agreement with the MLS Players Association.

Thankfully, a lot of work has been made since then; on Tuesday, the MLSPA revealed its MLS Average Salaries 2022, which included data for the players’ base salaries as well as their guaranteed compensation packages.

The following table provides a comprehensive overview of the typical player salary offered by each Major League Soccer (MLS) club. As can be seen, the team that now offers the highest wages to its players is Toronto FC, while the club that offers the lowest wages is Nashville SC.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) has a league-wide average player salary of $312,470, while the total annual wage bill for all of a team’s players is an average of $8,170,454.

The base salary of a player as well as all signing and guaranteed bonuses are annualized over the course of the player’s contract, including any option years, to arrive at the annualized average guaranteed compensation (guaranteed comp) number.

The annualized average guaranteed compensation amount takes into account any marketing incentive and any agent’s fees, but it does not take into account performance bonuses because there is no assurance that players will reach the benchmarks necessary to qualify for those awards.

The current Major League Soccer (MLS) minimum wage is $65,500, while the current average income for non-designated players in the MLS is $438,728. This is an increase of $40,975 (10.3 percent) when compared to the salary they received one year earlier. However, it is only natural that you are more interested in finding out who will be joining Shaqiri atop the list of highest-paid MLS players.
