Sacha Kljestan Club Career

In 2005, Kljestan was a member of the Orange County Blue Star of the United Soccer League Premier Development League. He had already signed a Generation adidas deal with the MLS. At the 2006 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, Kljestan was the fifth player selected overall.

Kljestan was one of the three finalists for the Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year award in 2006 after making 32 appearances for Chivas in league play and tallying seven assists. As a result of his better play in his second season, Chivas finished first in the Western Conference thanks in large part to the contributions he made, which included recording four goals and providing 13 assists throughout 25 matches.

He was selected for the Starting XI in the 2008 Major League Soccer All-Star Game, but he declined the nomination so that he may compete for the United States Olympic Team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His play for both his club and country drew interest from a number of clubs in other countries.
